East Harlem Health Outreach Partnership

EHHOP is the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai's student-run, physician-supervised free clinic. We provide primary care to uninsured adults in East Harlem. Our services are confidential and are provided at no cost.

EHHOP is remarkable among student-run, free clinics for its longitudinal, primary care model and the breadth of services it offers. Since its founding in 2004, EHHOP has grown substantially. EHHOP serves more than 250 patients annually in more than 1,000 clinic visits across four medical specialties.

Mission Statement

In recognition of the lack of access to health care that affects so many, our mission at EHHOP is to create a health outreach partnership with the East Harlem community. We provide quality health care, regardless of ability to pay or lack of health insurance.

As part of our intent to care comprehensively for our patients, we serve as a bridge to medical and social support resources that we cannot provide ourselves. We offer confidential, compassionate care in a safe, respectful environment. We aim to establish a positive approach to medicine by creating shared goals with our patients and by empowering our patients to participate actively in their physical and emotional well-being to enhance the effectiveness of our services.

As medical students, we commit to serving our patients' health care needs, and, in so doing, commit to expand our own knowledge, skills, and ideals. We strive to rededicate ourselves continually to our roles as future physicians, strengthening our respect for medicine as students, so that we may maintain our commitment throughout our careers.

Our Model

EHHOP Leadership Structure

Student Leadership

Our students of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) carry out all aspects of the operation and administration of the clinic. A steering committee of elected medical students who serve one-year terms runs the day-to-day operations. Under the guidance of EHHOP's medical director and program director, the steering committee continually revises and improves clinic policies and protocols.

ISMMS Partnerships

EHHOP’s success is possible only through the cooperation and dedication of many individuals and departments at ISMMS. These include clinical laboratories, the Department of Radiology, the Division of General Internal Medicine, the Development Office, Medical Education, and many individuals.
