Two National Institutes of Health (NIH) organizations—The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD)—support TBI research through grants to major medical institutions across the country. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) supports Mount Sinai’s multi-center and multi-disciplinary study designed to dramatically increase understanding of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and other late effects of traumatic brain injury. This project represents the most systematic and scientifically rigorous effort to date to develop a more complete understanding of the long-term clinical and neuropathological sequelae of single and multiple TBI.
