Clinical Services

At the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC), we provide a wide range of services to individuals with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and their caregivers. We offer support groups, comprehensive diagnostic evaluations, referrals for treatment, workshops for caregivers, counseling, and programs to educate and inform the general community about issues related to AD and healthy aging. In addition, we are pleased to provide a list of resources for patients and caregivers.

Support Groups

ADRC social worker Shehan Chin, LMSW, provides support groups and psychoeducation for caregivers who are in the ADRC in English and Chinese. Caregiver services are provided both in person and on the telephone, individually and in groups. Individual caregiver consultations focus on evaluating self-care needs and challenges, promoting self-care and psycho-social well-being and linking caregivers to specific resources as needed. Group services focus on providing support, psychoeducation and promoting mutual aid among participants.

The ADRC support team is also available to provide caregivers outside the ADRC with information about community resources in English, Spanish and Chinese.

Diagnosis and Evaluation

Early diagnosis of memory and other cognitive problems allows patients and their families to take advantage of the most effective treatments and get connected to supportive services and educational resources. We offer two ways to obtain a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation:

For those interested in the possibility of participating in clinical research, including studies for healthy elders and those with memory or other cognitive impairments, we conduct a comprehensive diagnostic work-up. This assessment includes an evaluation by a geriatric psychiatrist specializing in memory concerns, cognitive testing with a psychometrician, and a research blood draw. There is no charge. Our services include annual follow-up visits, communication with your primary care physician or other healthcare provider upon request, and eligibility for consideration for our research studies and clinical trials. We also invite participants to attend annual participant appreciation days and receive the ADRC newsletter. To learn more about research evaluations, call 212-241-8329.

Geared to those interested in a clinical evaluation of memory or other cognitive concerns, the Neuropsychological Testing and Evaluation Center offers assessment by senior faculty and doctoral-level trainees. The comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation includes taking a detailed history and two to three hours of paper-and-pencil tests administered in the office. We produce a comprehensive report for the referring provider and family, offering specific recommendations for further treatment or evaluation. We also provide referrals to other Mount Sinai or community providers made as necessary (e.g., neurologist, psychiatrist, social work, support groups) and to the ADRC, upon request. Our program is fee-for-service and accepts Medicare, Part B. We can work with other insurance plans with out-of-network benefits. To learn more about this center, call 212-241-9553 or 212-241-6088.
