One of the busiest cardiology centers in an amazing city, diverse patient population and pathologies, offered both strong clinical training as well as the ability to work with research mentors who are leaders in their fields. Outside of those research interests, my other passion is in medical education and improving the academic and didactic learning environment. Why did you choose Mount Sinai for your fellowship training? I knew that Mount Sinai would provide me with not only exception clinical, hand-on training, but also that ability to work with and learn from distinguished clinical researchers. We are at the front lines of patient care and have the ability to participate in innovative research endeavors. Interests and hobbies outside of the hospital: When I'm not at work, you'll find me experimenting in the kitchen, exploring new restaurants, and watching my beloved Chelsea Football Club. |

| Name: Ashton Lai College: Duke University Medical School: Yale School of Medicine Residency: Mount Sinai Hospital Honors, awards and distinctions: President's Circle Presentation at American Society of Echocardiography Career, educational, and/or research interests: Though my prior clinical research has been focused on multimodality imaging, I have been truly enjoying all aspects of my fellowship and currently undecided in regards to subspecialization at this time. Why did you choose Mount Sinai for your fellowship training? Mount Sinai Cardiology has an amazing supportive community. Not only do you have the opportunity to work closely with the top cardiologists in each subspecialty but you also have the best co-fellows . The clinical and research opportunities are endless and are only limited by the time available. The structure of the program also lends itself to freedom to develop your own path in your second and third year; most of home call is completed in the first year and there are no night coverage weeks that do not contribute to COCAT requirements, thus, allowing more time to hone your clinical skills. Interests and hobbies outside of the hospital: Hiking with my wife and dog though we are expecting a baby girl soon. |
