Mental Health Support

Mental health, like physical health, is a priority at Mount Sinai. Mental health symptoms and problems are very common and we believe there should be no repercussions to seeking health care, including mental health care. To this end, we provide a variety of programs for people within the Mount Sinai Health System.

  • Mount Sinai Calm: Our clinical social workers provide free, confidential self-care, stress management, and work-life balance consultations in person or by phone. We can help you implement personalized self-care action plans. You can use Mount Sinai’s free yoga, mindfulness, tai chi offerings as well as music to unwind.
  • Mount Sinai Wellness: We offer wellness programs such as Mount Sinai Fit and Mount Sinai Calm. These personalized services offer information about nutrition, exercise, diabetes, diabetes prevention services, and primary care wellness visits.  Mount Sinai Wellness for more information.
  • Spiritual Care and Education: We provide interfaith spiritual car for various religions. Whatever your beliefs, our chaplains support you emotionally and spiritually. In addition, we can provide a Chi Cart with tea and aromatherapy and a quiet safe space for self-care. Call 212-241-7262 for more information.
  • The Mount Sinai Recreation Office: We offer discounts to many cultural events, such as Broadway and off-Broadway shows, movies, sporting events, amusement parks, restaurants, health clubs and spas, hotels, cell phone services, and car rentals.   • Paws & Play: In partnership with the Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy Department, we provide well-being and resilience opportunities for staff, faculty, and trainees. Visit our website or contact Jaclyn Craig to arrange an opportunity for you and your peers to interact with our trained facility dog Moby.
  • Lactation Facilities: If you are nursing, you can visit the lactation services website to find a pod or room near you. 
  • The Ombuds Office: A confidential, independent resource for students, trainees, and faculty at Mount Sinai led by Deborah Marin, MD, this office helps ensure fair and equitable conflict resolutions in workplace and educational settings.
  • The Office of Diversity and Inclusion: We support the Health System in living up to our principles of diversity and inclusion for excellence and innovation.   • The Office of Gender Equity in Science and Medicine: We aim to assess and address the climate and structures within the Mount Sinai Health System. The Office looks to build community while working to address and strengthen policies and programs related to bias and mistreatment, compensation equity, recruitment, retention and promotion, leadership development, and family support.

Psychiatry Services (medication management and/or psychotherapy)

  • Center for Stress, Resilience and Personal Growth (CSRPG)
    CSRPG provides resilience training workshops, outreach, and free confidential behavioral health care to Mount Sinai Health System all students, trainees, faculty, and staff. CSRPG's general operating hours are 9AM-5PM Monday-Friday, though earlier and later options may be available.

  • Mount Sinai Department of Psychiatry Faculty Practice
    Psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, and social workers provide confidential psychiatric evaluation and ongoing treatment including medication management and/or psychotherapy.   • Mount Sinai Behavioral Health Outpatient Program
    Providers offer telepsychiatry and telephonic visits, as well as in-person visits as needed. Employees seeking psychiatric evaluation, psychotherapy, and/or medication management for depression, anxiety, trauma, and complex psychiatric illnesses through our virtual platform are encouraged to contact any of the following numbers, no matter your usual hospital site.   • Mount Sinai Primary Care
    Your primary care physician can offer assessment and management of some mental health concerns (such as anxiety and depression) and suggest next steps to meet your health care needs. Brief Counseling

  • MSHS Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
    The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides free, confidential short-term counseling by licensed social workers to Mount Sinai employees and your covered dependents. Call 212-241-8937 for scheduling.
  • Individual Self-Care Consultations by Mount Sinai Calm:
    Mount Sinai Calm offers one-on-one well-being phone consultations with a highly experienced and compassionate licensed social worker. Based on your conversation, you will receive a holistic personal care plan and set of resources that support your overall health. Psychiatry Services (medication management and/or psychotherapy)

  • Student and Trainee Mental Health Service (STMH)
    STMH provides free confidential mental health evaluations, crisis interventions, psychotherapy, and medication management for Mount Sinai students and trainees, regardless of insurance plan. STMH has transitioned primarily to telehealth services utilizing confidential platforms. On site appointments will be made available if clinically indicated. To schedule an appointment (initial or follow-up), please email STMH@mssm.edu or call 212-659-8805 between 9 AM and 5 PM Monday-Friday. STMH also has evening hour appointments several days a week.
  • WellConnect
    WellConnect provides 24/7 crisis support, short-term counseling sessions, as well as other services and resources such as legal and financial consultations. For after-hours support or crisis help, please call WellConnect 24/7 support and crisis phone line at 212-241-2400 or 1-866-640-4777.   • Interactive Screening Program (ISP)
    The Interactive Screening Program (ISP), in collaboration with STMH and the Office of Graduate Medical Education, provides an opportunity for trainees to anonymously take a brief questionnaire for stress, depression, and other mental health conditions. Trainees who complete the anonymous screening will receive a personal response from a program counselor who works with STMH and will be connected to appropriate mental health resources. Mental Health Protocol for Threatened or Actual Loss of Life

  • To proactively access “Mental Health Protocol for Threatened or Actual Loss of Life,” please email owbr@mssm.edu. This protocol is intended for critical incidents involving the acute loss of life, including the completed suicide or unexpected death of an ISMMS/MSHS student, trainee, faculty, or staff member. We also include guidance for response in the event of expected deaths, unexpected deaths off campus and threatened loss of life (openly expressed suicidal ideation, suicidal gestures, suicide attempts and a missing colleague).
