Center for Stress, Resilience, and Personal Growth

Our Services for Faculty, Staff, Graduate and Medical Students and Trainees

Members of the Mount Sinai community face many ongoing sources of stress in their personal and professional lives, and benefit from both tools to manage these challenges on their own and expert support addressing concerns that are more persistent. Our Center is part of a wide range of supportive services available to Mount Sinai Health System faculty, staff, graduate and medical students, and trainees. We work closely with the Office of Well-Being and Resilience Talent Development and Learning, Mount Sinai Calm, and the Department of Psychiatry.

Our Model

We take a multi-pronged approach to behavioral health care and well-being, with the understanding that flexibility and close attention to stakeholder feedback are both essential to reaching all our constituents. Our model includes resilience workshops, outreach activities, individual behavioral health care, and a self-assessment and resilience-enhancing app - all of which have had to be responsive to changing needs over time. Many of our offerings and lessons learned could benefit other institutions, and we frequently present our work in professional forums. If you work for a hospital or health system and want to implement a similar program, we would be happy to advise you. Please email MS-CSRPG@mountsinai.org.

Resilience Workshops

Our resilience workshops are designed to give our faculty, graduate and medical students, and staff tools to meet life’s challenges, big and small, and to build on their inherent strengths. In developing these workshops, we have drawn on our extensive expertise in trauma interventions and resilience research. Our workshops focus on:

  1. Realistic optimism
  2. Facing fears
  3. Social support
  4. Self-care
  5. Finding meaning and purpose
  6. Managing moral distress

These workshops also help participants to develop their own resilience plans. You can learn more about the workshop series through our Road to Resilience podcast.

"This workshop has been such a life-saver for our group, and I recommend it to everyone. It allowed us to come together to work through our shared hardships in the medical field and practice transparency."

– Current MD Fellow at The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai

Individual Support

Individualized attention can really help. Most faculty, staff, trainees, graduate and medical students can receive mental health services in our Center with no out-of-pocket costs for up to 14 visits, to the extent possible by regulations and law. After these 14 visits, if you wish to continue, you will be responsible for co-pays for our services. We provide psychotherapy and, where needed, medication management services. Our treatment services are evidence-based and effective.

“I believe that optimal resilience is recognizing and instituting healthful and nourishing ways to adjust to the ‘new you.’ I have used the Center for Stress, Resilience, and Personal Growth for its support groups and currently the individual therapy, and I am sure I am on my way to the new and improved version of me.”

—Leslie Schlachter, PA-C, Clinical Director and Chief Advanced Practice Provider, Department of Neurosurgery, & Assistant PA Site Director at Mount Sinai Hospital
