The Microbiology (MIC) MTA is focused on studying all aspects of virology. We study a wide range of viruses that includes influenza, hepatitis C, dengue, West Nile, HIV, SARS-CoV2, measles, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, cytomegalovirus, and others. We investigate the host responses to these viruses, susceptibility to viruses, viral evolution, viral entry/life cycle, and many other aspects. We are also heavily focused on developing novel vaccine strategies and antiviral therapeutics to combat infections. MIC is ideal for those who would like to obtain a graduate degree in the field of virology and virus-host interactions.
Microbiology
The Microbiology MTA researchers are focused on the following major disciplines:
- Antiviral and Viral Antagonism
- Host Genetics/Epigenetics of Infectious Diseases
- Innate and Adaptive Immunity
- Development of Novel Model Systems to study viral infections
- Viral engineering and tool generation
- Vaccine Development
- Viral Entry
Our curriculum provides comprehensive training in the field of Microbiology with a special focus on virology and virus-host interactions.
Scholars come together from diverse personal and academic backgrounds to immerse themselves in the bioscience and research of microbiology and to explore its potential applications to translational medicine.
