Leadership Messages

The leadership team of the Office of Faculty Development (OFD) is dedicated to enhancing the lives and careers of faculty at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS). By managing an array of programs and events, OFD leadership ensures that even the most junior faculty can easily connect with the School’s many resources. From effective mentoring relationships, career advancement support, and leadership training, faculty receive the support of OFD leaders to have an enriched and positive experience within the Mount Sinai Health System community.

Message from the Senior Associate Dean

Peccoralo

As Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Well-Being and Development, my goal is to understand and harness the connection between faculty well-being and faculty career development to promote the well-being and professional satisfaction of the Mount Sinai faculty.  Our team has created a mission, vision and set of goals for the new Office of Faculty Development that addresses faculty development needs by 1) creating and supporting leadership development opportunities; 2) enhancing career advancement information and programming; and 3) promoting mentoring training and infrastructure within and across departments. I believe strongly that educational programming paired with usable tools and sound infrastructure can help our faculty learn valuable knowledge and skills, harness their passions and reach their goals. With our core partner office, the Office of Well-Being and Resilience, we will utilize strategies to improve and enhance career development, mentorship and leadership skills that will in turn, enhance faculty well-being.  Through other key collaborations with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Office of Gender Equity in Science and Medicine, we will ensure that diversity, equity and inclusion are core principles that permeate all of the programming we support and provide.  We encourage faculty members to reach out with questions and concerns about their professional development and we will do our best to learn about and align our programming with the needs of our faculty.  I look forward to our work together!

Sincerely,

Lauren Peccoralo, MD, MPH

As Associate Dean for Faculty Well-being and Development, I strive to apply a systematic and methodologically sound approach to enhancing the well-being, resilience, research success, and professional development of research faculty across the Mount Sinai Health System. Also given my intersectional identities as an African-American, female, and lesbian biostatistician, I hope to provide a unique perspective regarding the specific challenges that BIPOC faculty and those from other underrepresented groups encounter in developing successful research portfolios and advancing into leadership roles in academic medicine. To this end, I intend to leverage my collaborative work with the Center for Scientific Diversity, Office for Diversity and Inclusion, Faculty Diversity Council, Task Force to Address Racism, and Office for Gender Equity in Science and Medicine at ISMMS to apply innovative strategies to address the aforementioned challenges. I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Well-being and Development, Dr. Lauren Peccoralo, and the amazing team in the Office of Faculty Development to develop effective and sustainable, evidence-based programmatic and structural initiatives to ensure that all faculty at our institution are optimally positioned to thrive.

Sincerely,
