The Tisch Cancer Institute’s Community Outreach and Engagement Program works with community stakeholders to address cancer disparities and ease the burden of cancer for the patients, families, caregivers, and communities we serve within our catchment area, which includes the New York City metropolitan region.
We work to maximize the impact of our research by collaborating closely with the community and multidisciplinary team members at Mount Sinai. We partner with our community advisory board to best align outreach, engagement, research, and policy with community needs and promote equity in cancer care access and treatment. Our ongoing research and outreach efforts focus on promoting greater participation in the screening and early detection of cancers common in our catchment area, such as breast, liver, lung, colorectal, and prostate cancers, and multiple myeloma. We also address needs related to treatment, survivorship, and palliative and end-of-life care. We are continually working to increase awareness of cancer risk and prevention in medically underserved minorities, and engage with and include diverse groups of patients in cancer research and clinical trials. These efforts help us reduce the burden of cancer for patients, families, and greater communities throughout New York City and beyond.
