The Institute for Genomic Health is committed to accelerating the integration of genomic information into clinical care throughout the Mount Sinai Health System. Investigators at the Institute are leading international collaborations that harness the power of massive-scale genomics research to bring new discoveries to the front line of clinical care for use in diagnosis and preventive health.
Accelerating the Integration of Genomics and AI into Routine Clinical Care
In the next decade, the routine care of patients will increasingly be centered on genomic information. The rich scope of genetic, demographic, clinical, and lifestyle data in our health system is accelerating the pace at which we are discovering genetic variants that impact disease. Our research helps translate these findings into medical knowledge that can be used to predict, diagnose, or even prevent disease. Our faculty include experts in computer science, genomics, and medicine. The focus of our research is in the following areas:
- Novel gene-disease discoveries
- Monogenic and polygenic risk prediction
- Genetic and social determinants of health
- Research in diverse and underrepresented populations
- Pilot genomic medicine programs in primary care
- Diagnostic genome sequencing
- Digital app development
- Machine learning and clinical informatics
Our Core Values
Innovation: We are transforming health care through the application of AI to mine deep databases of genomic information and by developing digital health apps to enable patients and medical professionals to be more fluent in genomics.
Inclusivity: We translate genomic information into patient care, with a particular emphasis on populations that are currently underrepresented in genomic and medical knowledge bases.
Preventive Health: We are applying novel approaches to genomic-guided clinical care to aid in the early detection or prevention of treatable diseases.
Our New, Upcoming Facility
We will be housed on floors 5 and 6 of a new, state-of-the-art facility located at the center of our main campus on New York City’s Upper East Side, which will contain high-performance computing and cloud computing database capabilities. This location will allow for the seamless, immediate interaction of our research with our collaborators and help us with our mission to accelerate the integration of genomics into clinical care across the Mount Sinai Health System.
