The Adolescent Medicine Fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is a three-year training program for physicians. Each year of the program is tailored to provide individualized clinical, academic, and research experience.
Curriculum
The first-year of fellowship focuses on
- Acquiring clinical skills in the primary and acute medical care of adolescents, psychosocial/mental health assessments, and gynecology/reproductive health care.
- Developing academic skills by teaching small group seminars for residents and medical students, and by co-attending on the inpatient unit.
- Developing and strengthening research skills by selecting a mentor and formulating the early stages of a research project, up to submission of a proposal to the Institutional Review Board.
Clinical Activity
- On-site at the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center (four sessions per week)

The second-year of fellowship focuses on
- Continuing to develop clinical proficiency
- Learning new academic, administrative and research skills.
- Opportunities to train in LARC placement and management and experiencing adolescent healthcare in a private practice setting.
- Continuing work on scholarly activities and research

- Refining the clinical, academic, administrative, and research skills acquired over the previous two years.
- Developing academic skills such as precepting learners in the clinic, co-attending on the in-patient unit, providing lectures to residents and students, possibly presenting at Pediatric Grand Rounds
- Opportunities to work with experts outside of MSAHC in the area of eating disorders and sports medicine
- Presenting research at a national conference meeting.
- Developing a new program in an area of special interest.
