A growing amount of Mount Sinai records of permanent historical value are created and managed digitally. The Arthur H. Aufses, Jr. MD Archives strives to collect records created in digital format and to make our existing digital holdings available online.

The Aufses Archives catalog is the centralized location for access to digital materials, both born-digital records and scanned copies of analog archival holdings. Through our secure digital preservation repository, we manage digital archival records in a wide variety of file formats. Digital records that are restricted under the conditions of our General Archive Access Policy are also stewarded in our digital preservation repository. While we work to make material digitally available, there is a wealth of material that is not yet digitized and is available for consultation on-site, subject to our Research Policies, available below. Please contact the Archives for more information.

Materials reflected in the Archives are historical. As such, they may contain language and references that are inappropriate including racial or sexual stereotypes that are not consistent with the positions, norms, and values of the Mount Sinai Health System community. These have been retained in our online collections in order to fully represent the materials in their original context.

Digitized Images

The Image Database is a catalog of historic Mount Sinai Health System images dating back to the mid-1800s. The Image Database is being migrated to the Archives catalog and images will be available there by January, 2023. To request a high-resolution, non-watermarked copy of an image or any of our digitized material, please contact the Archives.

Digitized Audio Visual Material

The Aufses Archives holds a wide collection of historic film and video recordings dating back to the 1930s, including promotional and training films as well as recorded special events. Most of these items have been digitized and are available for streaming through our Archives catalog.

Web Archives

The websites, online publications, Youtube channels, social media, podcasts, and other online content produced by Mount Sinai are captured, archived, and made available through the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine by the Aufses Archives. Our web archiving initiatives began in 2015 and aims to capture the web presence of the Mount Sinai Health System. Browse our Collection of Mount Sinai related websites through our catalog.

Oral Histories and Sound Recordings

The Aufses Archives stewards a large collection of recordings of interviews, events, meetings, and lectures that date from the 1960s to the present day. Many of these items have been digitized, transcribed, and made available for streaming through our Archives catalog.
