Resources

The research we conduct through the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) affiliation with Rensselaer Polytechnic University (RPI) is supported by educational and research resources.

Educational Resources

A Joint Education Steering Committee is building the requisite infrastructure for course exchanges between the Manhattan and Troy campuses of ISMMS and RPI. While the long-term goals include joint curricula and degree programs, we have offered a couple of courses via distance education, including Applied Regression and Design of Experiment.

Complementary educational activities such as Design of Experiment and Applied Regression have been created. In addition, a course on Intellectual Property has been co-developed by ISMMS and RPI. In spring 2017, a microcourse, Materials Laboratory refresher, will be offered. Contact Stan Dunn at smd@rpi.edu for details.

We engage our partners from RPI in the following educational programs:

We offer an informal MD/PhD curriculum.

Through our 10-week Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP), we offer summer research internships to undergraduate students who are planning to pursue an MD/PhD or a PhD and who are interested in participating in research at a leading biomedical institution. SURP fellows receive intensive research training in a cutting-edge biomedical laboratory, gaining an insider’s perspective into Mount Sinai graduate programs and academic life. The fellowship includes free housing and a $3,500 stipend.

The FlexMed program allows college sophomores in any major to apply for early assurance to ISMMS. Once accepted, students will be free to pursue their area of study, unencumbered by the traditional science requirements and MCAT. This program is an expansion of the longstanding Humanities and Medicine Early Assurance Program (HuMed) and the Science and Medicine Program (SciMed).

Research Resources

We provide access to useful tools and resources available at both ISMMS and RPI.
