The Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (Urogynecology) Fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The mission of our three-year fellowship program is to produce compassionate, versatile expert surgeons and consultants who are well prepared to care for women with pelvic floor disorders and meet the challenges of our ever-evolving field. Our goal is to produce leaders who will advance the field of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery through research, education, advocacy, and innovation.
Fellows train under our four full-time urogynecologists and three additional urogynecologists. We teach our fellows in all aspects of FPMRS, including non-surgical and surgical treatment. Fellows will become adept at a wide variety of surgical approaches, including vaginal, abdominal, laparoscopic, and robotic surgeries and will be versatile surgeons by the end of their training. We also regularly collaborate with faculty members of the Surgical Divisions of Urology and Colorectal Surgery, offering our fellows a complete range of clinical and surgical training and providing our graduates with an excellent foundation in all aspects of FPMRS.
Curriculum
Our three-year fellowship program dedicates 12 months to research and two years to clinical care. Clinical care rotations are spent at The Mount Sinai Hospital and at Mount Sinai West/Mount Sinai Morningside doing operative and office based urogynecology. Fellows also rotate through Urology and Colorectal Surgery.
Our Department holds weekly faculty-led lectures based on the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s Guide to Learning in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. There is also dedicated time for journal club, board review, and case presentations which teach fellows to fully assess a wide variety of clinical problems and develop well thought out plans for clinical care.
Research
Our fellowship program dedicates one year to clinical and/or bench research. Fellows have access to a wide variety of clinical and basic science opportunities with faculty in our own department and in other departments at Mount Sinai. As a fellow, you will create, institute, and present at least one complete project. You will also be matched with a mentor who is an expert in your area of interest. There is dedicated funding and statistical analysis support available to help you reach your goals. We conduct monthly research meetings that include FPMRS faculty, the Vice Chair for research and the Vice Chair for education, as well as our statistician, research coordinator, and epidemiologist. We also encourage fellows to assist residents with their research projects.

How to Apply
All applications must be sent through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Application requirements include: a completed ERAS form, official transcript from your medical school, a letter of recommendation from the Program Director, two letters of recommendation from faculty members regarding your performance on clinical clerkships, a personal statement, results of USMLE or equivalent, and licensing examinations. Candidates who accept invitations to interview will receive a tour of the hospital and will spend approximately five hours meeting with faculty and fellows. Those receiving an invitation to interview are welcome to contact the Fellowship Coordinator with any questions they may have.
